Matcha, by traditional definition, is made with tencha leaf. But as the global market has driven demand it is driving innovation—this green tea powder made from leaf that would otherwise become fukamushicha, or deep steamed sencha, is not the green tea powder offered by the tea industry in the past. In fact, it is very similar to matcha in its grain size and functions as an alternative ingredient for matcha lattes. For this reason, we are calling this powder a "tea leaf matcha".
